How does your pricing work?
Users purchase a monthly or annual Sidebar subscription. Our plans offer a set number of included participant hours, and the ability to add more hours at a fixed cost. The more upfront hours you purchase with your plan, the lower the cost per hour.
What is a participant hour?
We track and sell usage in ‘participant hours.’ A participant hour equals one participant using Sidebar for 60 minutes. 100 participants using Sidebar for one hour each equals 100 participant hours, 25 participants using Sidebar for four hours each also equals 100 participant hours. Usage is calculated in cumulative minutes, and you can track this in your host dashboard.
What is the difference between the plans?
There are three team plans: Standard, Plus and Pro that come with 100, 500, and 1000 “participant hours” included, respectively. The more hours you buy upfront, the greater the per-hour discount. The Plus and Pro plans allow unlimited hosts and event links. The Standard plan allows 10 hosts and 100 event links.
The Personal Plan is a lightweight option that allows a single host, and is geared for smaller gatherings with friends and family. It does not have the full admin controls of the team plan, such as the ability to create auditoriums or prevent attendees from editing and deleting rooms.
How does the subscription work? Can I cancel it?
Sidebar is a subscription service, which means that your plan renews every month or year (depending on the term you select). You can cancel your subscription at any time during your plan term which will cancel auto-renewal of your subscription. Canceling is easy with a few clicks from your admin dashboard. You can also upgrade or downgrade your subscription during your term; all plan changes take effect on your next billing date.
How does the free trial work?
When you select a plan, you will have 14 days to try the service for free with up to 20 free participant hours.
Your plan will start after 14 days or if you exceed 20 hours of usage, whichever comes first.
Isn't this expensive? Zoom looks cheaper.
Zoom and Sidebar are very different products for very different settings, but for most teams and organizations, a Sidebar account will be cheaper than a Zoom account.
Zoom's business plan starts at $199.9 per month for 10 licenses and up to 300 participants per call. Our Standard plan starts at $89 to $99 (annual vs. monthly plan) with 10 host accounts, up to 300 participants and 100 included participant hours. Even purchasing an additional 100 participant hours in a month will still cost less than Zoom.
Individual plans cost $12 to $19 per month (annual vs. monthly plan) for 20 participant hours. That compares to Zoom's pro plan at $14.99 per month.
Sidebar can sometimes be more expensive for heavy users of video chat. Our prices reflect the fact that bandwidth costs rise exponentially the larger a call gets -- and due to the social nature of Sidebar, a Sidebar call likely has more participants an average than Zoom.
Is there really no limit on the number of events and admins in my organization?
Yes, for plans that include unlimited events and admins (Plus and Pro), there are no limits. Invite as many people as you like to your organization and they will all be able to create and run events on Sidebar. You can also create as many event links as you like.
What happens if I go over my included monthly hours?
If you exceed the number of participant hours included in your plan, you may purchase blocks of 50 hours (for $50) in the Team Plans and 25 hours (for $25) in the Personal Plan. We'll bill you for those additional hours at the end of the month. We will alert you when you're approaching your limit.
Can I put a cap on the hours I use?
Yes, you will see this option to cap your hours during checkout. You can choose to have your events automatically stop when they reach a set number of hours, and you will not be charged any additional fees. We will alert you when you are approaching your cap.
How many participants can join an event?
Up to 300 participants can join an event. Within the event, up to 300 can join an auditorium and up to 100 can join a standard room.
